Not content to mesmerize people for just laughs or therapy, acclaimed hypnotist and libertarian pundit Jake Shannon is also waking people up, en masse, to the surreptitious social engineering methods deployed by big government and big business.

Jake began his study of hypnosis as a teenager while fighting cancer when his oncologist recommended he look into hypnosis to help mitigate the pain associate with chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Twenty years later, Jake is now the host of Mental Self-Defense Radio on Utah's AM630 K-Talk, the Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Utah, and in 2010 he campaigned as the Libertarian candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Utah's Third Congressional District. Mr. Shannon first became libertarian after reading Ayn Rand as an undergraduate. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995 while attending on academic & leadership scholarships. This is where Jake began his study of rhetoric and the impact of language upon culture. Upon graduation, he moved to San Francisco where he became the manager of shipping for Laissez Faire Books (LFB). Jake has always maintained he "learned more during those years working in the stacks at LFB than in graduate school" (where he earned his Master of Science in Financial Engineering designation in 2002 from Golden Gate University).

Jake's professional quantitative experience includes time as a Derivatives Specialist Manager at Financial Engineering Associates in Berkeley, CA; Technical Oversight Manager of mortgage servicing rights valuations and FAS 133 at Indymac Bank in Pasadena, CA; Associate Statistician for Abacus-Direct in Broomfield, CO; and Manager of Modeling for Financial Freedom Senior Funding in Irvine, CA. Most recently, Jake co-founded the reverse mortgage industry's leading analytic consultancy. He left quantitative finance to dedicate himself to educating others about the importance of individual liberty and self-responsibility.
